Massey Ferguson 281 Periodic Maintenance

Every Ten Hours or Daily Inspection

Check motor oil level. If the engine oil level is low, add fresh oil.

Transmission/hydraulic fluid level checking. When the transmission/hydraulic fluid is low, add fresh oil.

Checking engine air filter elements. Change if necessary.

Check the coolant level in cooling system. If the coolant level is low, add it.

Check engine idling, steering system, service brakes and parking brake. Repair any damage if necessary.

Oil Change And Filter Replacement

Every 250 hours

Replace engine oil. Recommended engine oil: SAE 10W-30, 15W-30, 15W-40, 20W-40. API service classification SE, SF, CC, CD. How much to fill: Engine Oil Capacity - 7.2 qt (6.8 L). Fill with the new oil up to the upper notch on the dipstick.

Change engine oil filter. Engine oil filter part number: 1447031M2/1447048M2. Clean the filter housing from dirt before replacing the filter element. After installation, checking the oil level is recommended. If required, add it.

Replacing steering oil filter. Steering filter part number: 3595175M1. After installing a new filter, check the steering fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.

Check engine primary air filter element. Change if necessary. Air filter part number - 3824035V1.

Inspect engine secondary air filter element. Replace as required. Part number - 3824036V1.

Every 500 Hours

Change filter element in hydraulic system. Hydraulic filter part number: 3771122V92 Element (Tubed End), 3800305V91 Element (Aux. Pump). After installation, checking the hydraulic/transmission oil level is recommended. Add hydraulic fluid if it is low.

Replace fuel filter. Engine fuel filter part number: 836218V92. Check injection pump settings.

Every 1000 hours

Transmission/hydraulic fluid change. Transmission/hydraulic oil type - Permatran 3, SAE 15W-30. How much to fill: Transmission/Hydraulic Oil Capacity - 11.5 gal (43 L). Add transmission/hydraulic oil to the upper mark on the dipstick.

Front axle oil change. Front Axle Capacity - 5.9 qt (5.6 L). Front Axle Oil - Permatran.

Clean oil cooler fins and radiator.

Flush the cooling system and add fresh coolant. Cooling System Capacity - 14.8 qt (14 L).

Check all hoses and clamps.

Check level of battery electrolyte.

Check and adjust valve clearance.

Check and adjust fuel injectors.
